Cognitive Reappraisal

Cognitive reappraisal involves thinking about a situation differently in order to change one’s emotional response to the situation.  Psychological distancing, reframing, and identifying positive aspects of stressors or challenging situations, in particular, may help to reduce negative emotional responses to stressors.

Please use the menu to the left to read an Overview of Cognitive Reappraisal Practice and to access the specific exercise materials for Reappraisal, as well as several great Additional Resources. All of the downloadable files are also available below for easy access in the future (i.e. when you are earning extra credit through repeated practice!)
